Take part in our Super Sow-along Sunflowers for The Big Help Out – Monday 8 May 2023, part of the King’s Coronation weekend celebrations.
Here’s how: this month (March) and next (April) is the perfect time to sow sunflower seeds at home. The sooner the better so plants have time to grow. It can be your ‘Job for the weekend’, in the style of Monty Don on Gardener’s World. Any variety is good too – after all, that’s the spice of life! So you could try growing the tallest, a mini one, brown one, teddy bear fluffy ones! There are so many varieties to pick your favourite!
Then, on 8 May, we invite you to bring along your seedlings or baby plants and our volunteers will help you plant them in a sunny spot on the Prom for the community to enjoy. We will be planting some in the Julian Meers Italian Garden, in the terraced beds too.
The sunflowers will provide a sunny welcome to everyone all through the summer and well into autumn.
Tag us in your posts, stories and photos and we will show your sow-along progress pics of ours too – I’m getting all the Friends sowing along with us too! Join in the fun!
