The Creatures of Seething

Local artist @stevexoh has created an art trail on the lower banks of the riverside, along Queen’s Promenade.

We spoke to Steve about this project:

“I’ve been making and leaving little bits of art in and around London and other cities around the world for about 10 years now so when I moved to Surbiton I wanted to contribute something to the area.

I’ve been in the area for about 18 months now and the river has become a very special place to me so I thought I’d use some little tiles I had to make a community art trail celebrating the creatures that have been spotted in the area over the years.

The trail starts just past Ginger Bees cafe and finishes just before the Queen’s Promenade mural. There is a “Creatures of Seething” title tile at the start and end of the trail and then 9 tiles each featuring a different creature along the (roughly) 0.5km between.

Of course, street art is transient so some of the tiles disappear mysteriously but I try to maintain them and replace/repair them as much as possible.”

You can view the video Steve made about the trail here.

Steve will have a stall at Surbiton Farmer’s Market on the 17th August where he will be selling various bits of art including some tiny tiles. Pop by to say “hi”.

And check out the art trail the next time you are down on the Prom and see QPF gardens and the river from a fresh perspective!

Collaboration by @jdwoof and @stevexoh, as part of their “Art Babies” partnership, turning found litter nearby into art.
